Volunteers, helping to keep the great work of Huron Feathers going, year after year.
Mrs. Marilyn Bannister
Marilyn has served on the Board of Huron Feathers for over 20 years. Born and raised in Brampton she was secretary at Hepworth Public School for 3 years, secretary at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church for 21 years, secretary for Sauble Valley Scouting for several years, and secretary for Huron Feathers for approximately 10 years. She is also a member of the Zion Amabel United Church Handbell Choir and a member of the Sauble Singers. Marilyn has 2 sons (one living in North Carolina), 6 granddaughters & 2 grandsons. Two of the grandchildren have been campers at Huron Feathers for several years.
Mr. Bruce Price - Treasurer
Bruce has been a Chartered Professional Accountant in public practice for over 35 years serving small businesses, not-for-profit organizations, individuals and estates. He has also owned and managed a commercial print shop and been the Business Manager of an international manufacturer, importer and exporter of consumer goods. Bruce actively volunteers in many local charities, his church and sings in two area choirs. Four grandchildren under the age of 5 have first claim on any free time he does have or chooses to make.
Mr. Steve Darling & Mrs Marie Darling
Steve and Marie Darling live in Cambridge and spend summers at Sauble. Their youngest daughter Melissa was a staff member at Huron Feathers for a number of years and is the Program Coordinator this year. It was through her that their attachment to the Feathers developed.
Mrs. Lynda Palmer
Lynda has been a Board member for about 15 years. She is retired from the field of Social Work with the City of Toronto after 27 years and an additional twelve years with the Toronto District School Board as an Instructor of Literacy and Basic Skills to Adult Learners. The last years were working with Special Needs adults.
As a summer resident of Sauble Beach for over 25 years, Lynda has actively been involved with Huron Feathers by attending the services, attending Bible Studies, bringing her grandchildren and nieces to the Day Camp Program and volunteering in various capacities as needed. She has been on the Staffing/Hiring Committee for several years and worked as the Director for the summer of 2006. She has a strong belief in the need for this Ministry and the value that it provides to the Sauble Beach Community at large
Mr. Wayne Palmer - Co Chairperson
Wayne has recently returned to the Board of Directors, after taking a Sabbatical for the last seven years. He has recently retired from a career in Civil Engineering of over 40 years, specializing in mining in Canada and throughout the world.
In the past, Wayne assisted with maintenance of infrastructure, staff recruiting and helping out as needed, such as barbecuing at special events. After completing a course in Operations of Small Drinking Water Systems this year, he has assumed the role of monitoring the water and septic systems for Huron Feathers.
Wayne looks forward to assisting our Board in maintaining a high quality in ethics, safety and responsibilities as well as assisting in growing our faith in Jesus Christ.
Rev. Ted Creen - Worship Coordinator
Ted is a "retired" Presbyterian minister. His most recent church was St. Andrew's Owen Sound where he and his wife Lorraine served for over 25 years. Ted has a long relationship with Huron Feathers. He served as a summer pastor in 1974, as Summer Director from 1984 to 1987 and again from 2011 to 2013 & he's back this summer as Worship Coordinator, leading the Sunday morning worship services and a Bible Study on Wednesday mornings. Ted is an author: & his most recent book, "Get a Life!" was part of worship and Bible Study in 2013. As well, a hymn Ted wrote, "Lead Me Jesus" is included in the current Presbyterian hymn book. Ted and Lorraine have one daughter, Sarah who is married to Michael and now are proud grandparents of Grace with another grandchild on the way in November.
Mr. John Gilbert - Secretary
Although raised in the Maritimes, John has called Bruce County his home since 1990. John is a member of Knox Walkerton and has also been Clerk of the Presbytery of Grey Bruce Maitland since 2008. John joined the Board because he believes we need to support, encourage and help our children and youth in all walks of life, including their spiritual walks. In his other lives, John is a member of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre hospital Board, a member of Chesley Rotary Club and in his spare time, finds time to earn a living as a lawyer at McLean Lawyers in Chesley.
Mr. Dennis & Mrs. Betty Mills
Dennis & Betty have been serving on the Huron Feathers Board of Directors for many,many years. They started attending the Feathers in 1990 and joined the Board in 2002. They live in Dundalk but had a trailer at Sauble Beach until a couple of years ago. They continue to come to Sauble when they can to attend the worship services, as well as getting out to Board meetings when they are able to. Dennis is enjoying his new job at Shirley's Garden Supply between Shelburne and Primrose on Highway 89 & keeps busy, working 6 days a week in the summer, driving a truck - delivering mulch, soil, plants etc. When he's not so busy he does odd jobs for them. He built a pergola on the end of one of the greenhouses. Betty volunteers at her church on Thursdays doing the weekly bulletin. Dennis & Betty's one "child" has 4 paws. His name is Radar and he is one spoiled dog!
Mr. Harry & Mrs. Terese Klapwyck
Harry and Terese live full-time in Sauble Beach, just around the corner from Huron Feathers. We moved to Sauble Beach in 2008 and are recent members of the board. Harry has recently retired as an Electrical Engineer working in the aerospace industry and Terese a full time homemaker. Currently, we have six children and 11 grandchildren (number 12 due in April). After worshiping at Huron Feathers for the summer of 2016, we were pleased when Huron Feathers asked us to join the board, and are looking forward to supporting this worthwhile cause.
About the Board
Huron Feathers is managed by a Board of Directors comprised of Presbyterian clergy from the Synod of South-western Ontario of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, members of the summer congregation as well as interested local residents and long term cottagers. The Board oversees the hiring of staff, the programming and the maintenance of the Centre and the staff cottage and meets once a month, excluding December. The Board of Huron Feathers is directly accountable to the Presbytery of Grey-Bruce-Maitland through its Missions Committee, and to the Synod of South-western Ontario through its Missions Committee. Two representatives of the Board are appointed annually by the Synod’s Committee to Nominate, to sit as members of the Synod Missions Committee.
